Wedding Invitations 101

Ordering Tips:  You should order your invitations - at minimum - 2 1/2 to 3 months prior to your event.  This allows enough time to get the invites back and you can start addressing them.  You should also order 20%-25% extra for your B list and for any error that may occur.

Also, you should consider postage in your budget.  When I got married, I didn't account for postage.  I know, I know, being a planner for over 15 years, I should know better, right? Depending on the size of your invite and if it can run through the postage machine, you may have extra postage added.

Have any ordering tips that you would like to share? Leave a comment at the bottom.
Thanks! Happy Wednesday!

Engagement Season Part II

Whether you're getting married 2 years after the engagement or 6 months after the engagement, you will need an action plan.  This checklist will guide you step-by-step as to what is to come next.  I can not stress to you enough the importance of booking a planner early in the game; your planner will save you time, money and stress.

However, if you've already gotten a team of people, check off what you have already gotten accomplished and move from there.

Post Engagement Checklist:

  • Create a Budget - This should be the amount provided by all contributors
  • Determine Wedding Date
  • Determine Wedding Party
  • Book Ceremony/ Reception Venues
  • Start Guest List
  • Book a Planner - Planners have insight and relationships with vendors
  • Book Officiant
  • Book Photographer and Videographer
  • Book Band and/or DJ's
  • Book Florist
  • Determine Bridal Attire (Bride, Bridal Party and Groomsmen)
  • Reserve Hotel Rooms
  • Wedding Registry
  • Wedding Website
  • Determine Stationery (Invitations, Menu Cards, Seating Cards, etc.)
  • Honeymoon
  • Arrange Transportation
  • Rehearsal Dinner
  • Book Wedding Cake Baker
  • Hair/Make-up
  • Wedding Rings

I hope you find this checklist useful.  Again, congratulations on your engagement!

Favorite Designs - Lazaro

Lazaro is one of my favorite gown designers.  Look at how gorgeous this dress is, from the fullness of the skirt to the intricate details.  This gown exemplifies the new and improved strapless bustier.
Still looking for a gown? Find more of Lazaro's designs at http://www.jlmcouture.com/Lazaro

Tell me, would you wear this dress on your wedding day?

Wedding Invitations 101

The style of your invitation will set the tone for your entire wedding; it is the first piece of correspondence your guests will see.  In the past, for formal weddings, a traditional invitation was engraved or printed in black ink on high-quality white or ivory paper.  However, with the growth in technology there are so many more options to chose from.
Non-Traditional Wedding Invitation; done by yours truly.
It is important to word the invitation correctly as well.  Invitation Consultants is a great website to refer to for writing samples.

Engagment Season Part I

The Engagement Season starts on Thanksgiving and ends on Valentine's Day; hitting several of the major holidays - Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and of course, Valentine's Day.  According to The Knot, approximately 39% of engagements will take place around that time of year.

So you're engaged what's next???
Well, I know you've dreamed about this time since you were a child, but now it's time to start planning. If you're going to book a planner, now is the time to get one; a planner will save you time and money. (What better reason to have a planner?) Next, you will need to book your venue for both the ceremony and reception.

Next week I will give you an action plan as to how to proceed with your wedding planning.  It will surely get your mind on the right track and help you prioritize.

First, comes first....Congratulations on your engagement!!!

Brides and Basketball

Hey Everyone,

Long time, no speak?  This past weekend I represented Brides Against Breast Cancer at a Brides and Basketball event.  We were there to get the word out about their organization and some upcoming events.

I also got to see the Clippers play against the Detroit Pistons!  Take a look at the photos.
